Hello lavender lover!
I know you love lavender as much as I do, especially this time of year. Its the perfect rustic addition to display in your Fall vignettes, not to mention the scent is OUT OF THIS WORLD!
We were fortunate to have some new landscaping installed this past Spring and I made sure lavender plants were definitely part of that equation. I love the color, the scent, and thankfully its a great bunny repellent! So far so good on the rabbits......they don't care for strong scents so hopefully I stay "in the clear".
Did you know that lavender not only grows in various shades of purple, but in blue, white, red and pink as well? I think I'm going to keep my eyes open for some white lavender to plant next Spring!
If you follow me on Instagram, I recently mentioned that I cut back my lavender plants and was in the process of drying some of the bunches. The easiest way to do this is to gather your bunches, tie them tightly in twine, and hang upside down in a cool, dark place.
Lavender takes between 2-4 weeks to fully dry, so if you get to snipping your plants now, the dried lavender will be ready to use by Halloween.
Do you know of some fun ways you can incorporate lavender into your home?
2. Make a room spray
with 2 cups water, 2 drops each lavender, tea tree &
peppermint essential oils in a spritzer bottle.
3. Make sachets of dried lavender to scent drawers & closets
4. Dried bunches look fresh all year…….use lavender in your
vases and Fall vignettes for a natural textured look.
5. Make a late summer drink with lavender flowers, or sprinkle
the dried blooms onto desserts.
I recently took my own advice and made this amazing Lavender Lemonade! (yes, using the actual lavender flowers that I grew in my own backyard....woo hoo!)
Give this recipe a try before the dog days of Summer are gone!
Fresh Lavender Lemonade
15 ice cubes
¼ cup dried lavender (or 2 Tbsp of fresh lavender flowers)
2 cups boiling water
¾ cup white sugar
8 lemons
5 cups cold water
Mix the sugar into the hot lavender water, then pour
into the pitcher with the ice.
Squeeze the juice from the
lemons into the pitcher, getting as much juice as you can. Once you squeeze the lemon juice into the pitcher, you will see the pretty pink color appear. Top off the pitcher
with cold water, and stir. Give it a taste, and adjust sugar or lemon juice as needed.
